What were once only flying over Iraq and Afghanistan are now flying over the United States and soon over your house.
No longer are drones getting a lay of the land overseas and firing missiles at both structures and human targets.
Domestic drones are here. Surveillance technology has become "frightening" according to Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor.
At a recent speaking engagement she also stated:
"There are drones flying over the air randomly that are recording everything that’s happening on what we consider our private property. That type of technology has to stimulate us to think about what is it that we cherish in privacy and how far we want to protect it and from whom."
Advances in tech make it possible for devices to “listen to your conversations from miles away and through your walls,” Justice Sotomayor said. “We are in that brave new world, and we are capable of being in that Orwellian world, too.”
This has rang true so much so already that state & local governments have started to either propose or enact laws limiting the use of drones over their airspace.
In 5 or 10 years, what will our airspace look like? How far will we let domestic drone surveillance go?
Do you want drone flying over your house? What policies should be enacted by our local, state and federal governments?
