A Renewables Revolution Is Toppling the Dominance of Fossil Fuels in U.S. Power

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-02-04/renewables-top-fossil-fuels-as-biggest-source-of-new-u-s-power

Renewable energy was the biggest source of new power added to U.S. electricity grids last year as falling prices and government incentives made wind and solar increasingly viable alternatives to fossil fuels.

"Developers installed 16 gigawatts of clean energy in 2015, or 68 percent of all new capacity, Bloomberg New Energy Finance said in its Sustainable Energy in America Factbook released Thursday with the Business Council for Sustainable Energy."

Ian Wright, Wrightspeed Is Electrifying Garbage Trucks

http://nationswell.com/ian-wright-wrightspeed-electric-garbage-trucks/

"Wrightspeed estimates that each refuse truck fitted with their electric powertrains would save $35,000 a year in gas and $20,000 in maintenance costs. That’s a payback within just three to five years. And the best news for residents? No more belching exhaust and no more clunky engines roaring into alleys at 5 a.m. The electric version is clean and practically silent."

By the way, there are 110,000 garbage trucks in the US.

"Wrightspeed, is installing range-extended electric powertrains (the generators that electric vehicles run on) in medium- and heavy-duty trucks for companies like the Ratto Group, Sonoma and Marin counties’ waste hauler, and shipping giant FedEx."

With countries around the world continuing to go nuclear (despite the risks and dangers), building the next generation of nuclear reactors seems to have accelerated. The reason I am highlighting this in clean & renewable energy is for one reason only...

Nuclear Energy & Utilizing Waste

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-07-07/bill-gates-and-other-billionaires-backing-nuclear-renaissance

"Bill Gates’ TerraPower, for instance, has designed a traveling wave reactor, which utilizes nuclear waste. Another design, by two MIT researchers, again uses waste, mixed into molten salt. In short, the nuclear reactors of the future will utilize not just regular uranium but will take care of the waste as well – the same waste that raises so much concern among environmentalists and the general public."

Tomorrow's Energy-Saving Neighborhood Is Being Built Today in Texas

http://nationswell.com/pecan-street-data-reduces-texas-energy-usage/

Check out the Mueller development. Under construction in Austin, this “smart grid experiment” boasts rooftop solar panels, electric vehicle charging stations and meters to measure the electricity usage of every appliance.

The very detailed data collected here could be of enormous help going forward.
